You don’t have time NOT to take time!

You don’t have time NOT to take time.

Keep reading about time and my recent Butterfly encounter if…

  1. you don’t agree with this crazy belief.

  2. you think someone else has the time but you don’t.

  3. you 100% agree with me.

  4. you’d love a beautiful reminder to take with you into your day.

It was a hot, summer afternoon somewhere in Georgia. We stopped for that one quick gas-fill and bathroom break before getting back on the road to Atlanta.

I stepped over it making my way back to the car through the gas station parking lot. But something whispered to me, "Go back. Don't let it end this way."

The whisper knows me well. I couldn't leave this tattered beauty to die on the hot black tar. It would hurt my heart to be in too much of a hurry to stop.

I didn't see how it happened. The wings were torn and tattered; yet, it was still alive. I didn’t even know how much longer it would survive, but I knew for sure it wouldn’t make it if I left it there floundering in the middle of the road. Once I shook off the hurry, I was able to offer this fragile, injured one my presence, attention and a gentle hand.

We shared a few moments together. I whispered that I was honored to witness its life and carefully walked with it to the far side of the gas station parking lot. I released it onto a long blade of grass under the shade of a tree. I don’t know how much longer it lived, but I do know it spent its next moments in peace and in nature.

As we drove away northbound on i-75, I reflected on the message that the butterfly offered to me— the invitation to listen the whisper that says “pause a moment and take care.” It had taken a few extra minutes to notice, pause and offer presence. It was not minutes lost. Not a waste of time. In fact, this encounter was life-giving and energizing to me and to my family who graciously paused with me.

Guess what?! We made it to Atlanta right on time. Proving, once again, I did indeed have enough time to take time.

I wonder if this truth is the same for you? If you haven’t experienced it for yourself yet, my invitation to you is to Test it out! If you do experience this time conundrum and you have a story to share, I’d love to hear it. Please email me @ christina@wanderponder.net.
